Position Details

A dynamic opportunity for an experienced Managing Principal Solicitor to become a key member of the Legal Branch leadership team in the Legal and Legislation Division of the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action.

The role leads a team of highly skilled government lawyers that strategically supports the diverse, complex and high-value work of the department. The team is an all-round government legal team, able to pivot to support DEECA with priority risks and issues as required.

Formal requirements for the role include:

  • An Australian lawyer holding or eligible to hold an Australian practising certificate under the Legal Profession Uniform Law (Victoria).
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver and supervise the delivery of legal advice and management of litigation at a senior level and a proven ability to provide legal advice in relation to at least two of the following areas: energy and energy projects, earth resources, agriculture, corporate governance, Aboriginal self-determination reform, administrative law, statutory interpretation, dispute resolution and litigation, and commissions and inquiries.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading a team and the management and allocation of workflow and resources.

This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is 2 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne with hybrid work arrangements available.
