About this role
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Research Scientist trained in quantitative genetics and statistical genomics, for an exciting position working on projects that contribute to the genetic improvement of Australian dairy cattle. The role underpins the Agriculture Victoria strategy to sustainably maximise productivity and adapt to climate pressures while supporting high standards of animal welfare.
A proven track record in quantitative genetics and statistical genomics involving large datasets (e.g., tens of thousands of individuals with millions of sequence variants) is required and experience in international scientific collaborations would be a distinct advantage. The successful applicant is expected to support other scientists as well as MSc/PhD students working in the same area and build a collaborative culture.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- A PhD in Quantitative Genetics, Statistical Genomics and Bioinformatics, or an equivalent qualification.
- Technical expertise in genomic prediction using gBLUP, Bayesian or Machine Learning approaches.
- Desirable: at least one year of prior research work experience in quantitative genetics and genomics in reputable academic/industry/government organisations.
- Desirable: expertise in processing DNA/RNA sequence data, as well as mid-infrared spectral data.
This is a fixed term position available until 30 June 2026. The work location for this position is AgriBio Bundoora with hybrid work arrangements available.
