About the role

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the Patient Transport Officer's key objective is to provide effective and efficient transportation of critically unwell patients between health services across the state of Victoria.  This will include driving the ambulance, managing the equipment and providing logistical support when transferring patients with complex issues. 

Within Adult Retrieval Victoria, we have multiple casual positions available. These positions will work out of Essendon Flields but may be required to work from alternate locations.The PTO roster may includes 8 - 12 hour shifts, 24 hours/day, 365 days/year, with the potential for incidental overtime.

About you

To be successful in this position, applicants must hold a completed Certificate III in Non-Emergency Client Transport or equivalent. This includes one of the following alternative Ambulance qualifications – Qualified Ambulance Paramedic, Diploma of Ambulance Paramedic Studies, Bachelor of Health Science – Paramedic Degree and current AHPRA registration.

Applicants must hold or if successful be prepared to obtain a Light Rigid, Victorian Drivers Licence prior to commencement.It is desirable that a PTO has completed 100 hours of on-road clinical experience as per the updated NEPT Regulations.

This role is suited to a highly motivated individual who is passionate about making a difference, to be considered for this position, you will possess the following:

  • Sound clinical problem solving skills
  • High level understanding of Scope of Practice/Clinical Practice Guidelines for the role you are applying for
  • Well developed verbal and written communication skills with a strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy and understanding when interacting with patients and families, including internal and external clients.
  • Be able to provide and follow guidance within a team environment
  • Work calmly under pressure and meet tight deadlines will be crucial in this role.

Due to fatigue management, it is desirable that applicants live 45-60 minutes from the work location. (Essendon Fields)

Successful applicants will be required to complete a Police Check and comply with Ambulance Victoria vaccination requirements.

The successful applicant may be required to pass a medical and physical fitness assessment as determined by Ambulance Victoria. Upon commencement with Ambulance Victoria, all successful applicants must be available to attend an induction program in Melbourne.

The salary for this position is in alignment with the AMBULANCE VICTORIA OPERATIONAL EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATIONS (2020 Enterprise Agreement)  plus super.
