About the position 

Ambulance Victoria is currently seeking a suitably experienced senior leader for the position of Director, Emergency Management.

Our Emergency Management Unit coordinates AV's response to major incidents across the state such as heatwaves, bushfires and floods. One of the unit's main roles is to isolate large and complex incidents so that AV's delivery of paramedic services across the state can continue unaffected, enabling AV to respond to a normal level of emergency calls in addition to the major incident. 

Our Emergency management Unit is now currently seeking a suitably experienced senior leader for the position of Director, Emergency Management. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, Specialist Operations and Coordination, this position will be responsible for the strategic management, leadership and development of AV's state wide Emergency Management and will be critical to:-

  • Leading the Emergency Management function and overseeing the development of policy and emergency management planning and resilience across AV to ensure readiness to respond to events and incidents.
  • Management of the emergency management, business resilience and major incident response plans and procedures to ensure they meet legislative, community and organisational obligations.
  • Monitoring and reporting on overall service delivery and performance, whilst leading the ongoing development and maintenance of robust governance frameworks for Emergency Management and Business Resilience activities and achievement of KPIs.
  • Provision of high-level advice and guidance to key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Undertaking the role of State Health Commander as defined in the State Emergency Management Plan (SEMP), Health Emergency Sub Pan (HESP).
  • Providing open and effective leadership to build a high-performance, collaborative culture that fosters continuous improvement and professional development
  • Leading and contributing to a safe, lawful, and respectful workplace culture through the modelling of ethical and positive behaviours consistent with the AV values. 

About you

Suited to a highly motivated and strategic individual, the successful applicant will possess:

  • Current Registration with the Paramedicine Board of Australia.
  • Significant emergency management experience or relative operational experience
  • Significant demonstrated knowledge of and experience in ambulance or emergency service delivery operations
  • Senior experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of process improvements and efficiencies
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to build and maintain relationships and influence, negotiate, and generate engagement with a range of stakeholders, both internally and externally.
  • A coaching, mentoring and leadership approach to management of a large, diverse workforce across multiple locations with demonstrated success in leading teams through work reforms and change, continuous culture improvement with a professional development focus.

Hybrid working options are available however it is essential that the successful applicant maintains a significant presence at our Lonsdale Street Office, as well as a requirement for statewide presence when required.
