Position Details

Ambulance Victoria is a unique and trusted organisation in Victoria's healthcare system.  We provide out-of-hospital medical treatment and ambulance transport for people in emergencies and draw on our clinical expertise and experience by connecting community members with less-urgent medical issues to the advice or appropriate care they need.  We collaborate with our community to deliver the best care possible to our patients.

We aim to provide fair and easy access to ambulance and healthcare services, to build healthy and resilient communities, and to continuously improve our service in partnership with Victorians.

We believe:

  • People deserve health care that is responsive, easy to access and meets their needs
  • Communities thrive when people know when and how to seek help
  • Services work best when they are shaped by the people who use them and the partners who deliver them

Critical to achieving our goals is the participation by Victorian community representatives as a part of our Community Advisory Committee (CAC).

The CAC is appointed to ensure the voices of all Victorian communities are heard, understood and integrated across the work and services of AV.

Your opportunity to contribute

We are now seeking expressions of interest from independent community members to join our CAC and help represent the diversity of the Victorian community.

Expressions of interest are encouraged from people who are:

  • Independent members of the community
  • Residing in metro, regional and remote locations
  • From Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds
  • Newly arrived migrants or refugees
  • From the LGBTQIA+ community
  • From multicultural communities
  • From young people aged 18 to 25

Community Advisory Committee

  • Community Advisory Committee members are our communities' advocates, and their experiences and contributions are highly valued by AV and its Board
  • Members are active and engaged participants in facilitating two-way communication opportunities between AV and key community groups and networks
  • Members especially provide AV with advice on the diverse needs of our community including, but not limited to:
    • Rural and regional Victorian communities
    • Culturally and linguistically diverse groups, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, homeless people, refugees, people impacted by family violence
    • Groups who may find it difficult to communicate with paramedics as part of their care experience, or who have special access needs either in their own homes or within our ambulances

Your role

As a Community Advisory Committee representative, you will need to:

Represent and voice the needs of your community members

  • Are you able to address and communicate issues from a community perspective?
  • Do you have an understanding of health issues generally?
  • Do you have a knowledge of, and interest in, local community health and related issues?
  • Are you able to reach out and connect with minority groups?
  • Do you have an established broad network of organisations within your area you can consult?
  • Have you undertaken or are you willing to undertake training relevant to this appointment (paid for by AV)?

Communicate effectively

  • Do you have good communication skills?
  • Are you prepared to report back to your local community with written and/or spoken communication?
  • Do you have an understanding of and commitment to observe confidentiality and privacy when it is required?
  • Are you able to communicate via email and participate in Teams meetings?

Work collaboratively with others

  • Are you able to work effectively in a team environment?
  • Do you have and can demonstrate respect for fellow committee members and staff from a variety of backgrounds and viewpoints?
  • Are you able to work effectively on a committee or are you willing to develop these skills with appropriate training and support?

Membership

The Committee's membership includes AV Board Directors and up to a maximum of nine (9) independent Community members. The Committee is currently chaired by independent member Colleen Furlanetto, OAM.  Other attendees at meetings may include the AV Chief Executive, Executive Directors, subject matter experts and guests.

Selection

The successful applicant will be selected via the following process:

  • Assessment of submitted application (via AV Careers website) including current resume
  • Shortlisting by the Evaluation Panel
  • Interviews held by the Evaluation Panel
  • Reference and Police checks by AV
  • Endorsement by the Chair of the Community Advisory Committee
  • Approval by the Board of Directors

The Committee requires applicants to be fully committed to the opportunity, and to therefore:

  • Be available and committed to attend meetings
  • Have requisite time to read the Committee's papers
  • Strictly observe the confidentiality provisions associated with the appointment
  • Be comfortable to contribute to Committee discussions

Members are appointed as individuals rather than representatives of organisations. Individuals employed by or representing a health service organisation are not eligible for appointment.

Application Process

Applications must be submitted by 11.59pm AEDT on Friday 4 April 2025. Applications must be submitted via the AV Careers page Careers - Ambulance Victoria to be considered. Emailed applications will not be accepted.
