The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Senior Prison Officer to provide a critical role at Tarrengower Prison.
About the Business Unit
Corrections Victoria is a business unit of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). Corrections Victoria's vision is ‘Safer prisons, safer people, safer communities'. Tarrengower is a minimum security prison accommodating up to 72 female offenders and is situated 2 kms from Maldon in Central Victoria. Tarrengower's emphasis is on release preparation and community reintegration through the provisions of programs within a rehabilitative environment. Tarrengower emphasises the principles of a healthy prison where children can be accommodated with their mothers ensuring the family unit is maintained and developed. Tarrengower strongly recognises cultural diversity, respecting individual religious, spiritual and cultural beliefs.
About the Role
The main responsibility of the Senior Prison Officer is to assist in maintaining the security and good order of the prison. This is achieved through appropriate levels of surveillance and interaction within the facility including searches, escorting duties, observing and assessing prisoner behaviour, operating security equipment, collating information, preparing reports, effectively responding to prison incidents. and ensuring compliance with security and safety procedures
The Senior Prison Officer is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of a team of Prison Officers and can be responsible for the day-to-day management of prisoner accommodation.
The Senior Prison Officer manages a case load of offenders, including more difficult and complex offenders, in accordance with the requirements of offender management practices. This includes liaising with the various Clinical, Vocational, Personal Development and Reintegration Service staff, to meet the identified needs of offenders and optimise the opportunities for rehabilitation through all aspects of the day-to-day routines, services and programs of the facility.
Senior Prison Officers model and reinforce behaviour and thinking within their team, and with prisoners to assist individual prisoner's ability to change their behaviour and contribute in a positive manner to the community upon release.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Completed Officer Pre Service Training.
- Computer Skills - Effectively use departmental computer systems for basic word processing, email, appointment scheduling, internet and intranet functions.
- A solid understanding of the various legislations, frameworks, policies and practices that are relevant to this role
- Demonstrated an alignment to the key skills and competencies outlined in the position description.
