The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Senior Project Officer, to provide a critical role within Community Operations and Parole.

About the Business Unit

Justice Services is responsible for the direction, management and operation of Victoria's Community Correctional Services (CCS) across more than 35 locations. It ensures offenders are safely and securely managed and aims to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.

Community Operations and Parole is responsible for providing central end-to-end oversight of the CCS service system and includes the Parole Central Unit, CCS Development Branch, Statewide Community Work and Partnerships team, Offender Management Development Branch, Court Assessment and Prosecutions Services (CAPS) Central Unit and the Adult Parole Board Secretariat. CCS review and investigation activities, monitoring and reporting and a suite of operational projects are also functions undertaken within Community Operations and Parole.

The Parole Central Unit is responsible for the monitoring, performance and integrity of the overall parole system. It oversees the parole application and assessment process, works to identify and address issues and ensures systematic improvement is made across the operation of the system.

About the Role

The Senior Project Officer will provide high level operational support to both prisons and CCS, in addition to working on a range of portfolios such as Immigration, Commonwealth Parole, Complex Classification Cases and other projects related to system improvement.  

Some of your duties will include:

  • Resolve complex and sensitive issues and problems with system wide impact involving a number of stakeholders and requiring integrated solutions, including resource, process and system performance issues.
  • Provide high-level authoritative advice to the Manager, Parole Central Unit and Executive Director, Community Operations and Parole on complex and sensitive correctional matters pertaining to the parole system.
  • Liaise and consult with senior Managers, location staff, other Justice agencies and other departments, providing advice, information and assistance.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated understanding and operational knowledge of Community Correctional Services, the Victorian Parole system and key issues impacting Corrections Victoria.
  • Sound knowledge of Victorian government administrative processes

Qualifications

  • An appropriate tertiary qualification is desirable.
