The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Senior Policy and Projects Officer to provide a critical role within Workforce and Aboriginal Outcomes.

About the Business Unit

Corrections Victoria's purpose is to enhance community safety through the operation of safe and humane community corrections, adult prison and post-sentence systems that supports reducing reoffending by delivering on the fundamentals of good order and control in prisons, a professional and skilled workforce, case management and programs and services that address the root causes of offending behaviour.  

The Cultural Reform and Workforce Strategy team supports the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner, Workforce and Aboriginal Outcomes to lead reform across the prison system to uplift workforce capability and deliver key initiatives committed to in Corrections Victoria's Prison Workforce Strategy.

About the Role

Some of your duties will include:

The successful candidate will provide strategic advice and manage projects to support a complex and significant program of cultural reform work. A key focus is on transformation of the adult custodial corrections system to a culturally safe and supportive environment for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in contact with the system (staff, people in custody and their families).

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Deliver workforce and cultural reform related projects, including initiatives related to improving recruitment, career pathways and cultural safety.
  • Support senior team members to deliver high quality and authoritative written materials including solutions focussed reports, briefings, learning modules, papers and presentations on system wide issues.
  • Engage with a variety of internal and external stakeholders (including Aboriginal community stakeholders, operational staff, and senior executives) on issues relevant to workforce and cultural reform and build positive and productive partnerships to drive work.
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and inclusive work environment.

Qualifications/requirements

  • A degree in public policy or related studies is desirable.
