Position Details
- Great opportunity to join the Youth Parole Board on a fixed-term basis to 30 June 2027 at the Parkville Youth Justice Precinct, with prospects for extension

The Youth Parole Board (the Board) is an independent statutory body established under the Youth Justice Act 2024. It exercises jurisdiction over all young people sentenced by a court to be detained in a youth justice custodial centre, and also those who are transferred to a youth justice custodial centre by the Adult Parole Board after being sentenced to a term of imprisonment in an adult prison.
The Board issues parole orders, may set or amend the terms and conditions of a parole order, and may cancel a young person's parole.
In carrying out its functions, the Board interviews young people in detention, and requests and considers a range of information including case histories, reports from professionals, assessments, and court documents to make decisions regarding parole orders.
The opportunity
- Provide strategic leadership and direction in overseeing the Secretariat's operational and planning activities.
- Provide high-level, authoritative and strategic advice, briefings and reports to Board members, and Youth Justice executive management on all aspects of the Board's operations.
- Provide high-level leadership, direction, and guidance to the Secretary of the Youth Parole Board and Secretariat staff.
- Lead the Board's implementation of legislative and operational reforms, including the effective transition to new requirements under the Youth Justice Act 2024.
To be successful in this role you will have
- Knowledge and understanding of the role of the Youth Parole Board within the operations of the Victorian Youth Justice system and broader operating context.
- Knowledge and understanding of the relevant provisions of the Youth Justice Act 2024, and reforms specifically impacting the Youth Parole Board.
- Knowledge and experience of Youth Justice custodial and community operations.
- Experience in public sector management and administration at a senior leadership level.
An appropriate tertiary qualification in public policy, criminology, law or other social sciences field will be highly regarded.
You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.
