The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking an IT Coordinator, to provide a critical role within Metropolitan Remand Centre.
About the Business Unit
The Metropolitan Remand Centre is a 954-bed maximum-security facility for unsentenced male offenders located within the West Metropolitan Region, Department of Justice and Community Safety.
About the Role
The IT Coordinator at the Metropolitan Remand Centre will be responsible for the effective management of Information technology resources and ensuring the prisoner intranet and network is managed effectively, allowing it to operate as intended, being protected from misuse and compliance with Corrections Victoria and local prisoner computer policies and guidelines.
The IT Coordinator will be responsible for the management of MRC owned IT assets and be the liaison between MRC and Corrections Victoria Technology Services. This position is part of a team consisting of Infrastructure maintenance and will be expected to contribute to the team through supporting the facility maintenance activities.
This position may require direct prisoner contact and may involve weekend and public holiday work, remunerated in accordance with the applicable provision of the VPS Determination.
Some of your duties will include:
- Provide technical advice and assistance to MRC staff and Management in relation to local IT resources.
- Liaise with DOJ & CV Technology Services on project rollouts, installation or repair of MRC IT equipment and prisoner network computers.
- Act as the Prisoner Intranet Network system administrator, including network design, user requirements, switch configuration and system requirements, and publish information on the local intranet

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Highly developed computer skills and demonstrated knowledge and experience in use of Linux systems (Ubuntu), Web content manager Joomla, development of Microsoft Access/SQL based tools would be advantageous.
- Proven experience in programming language including developing code and implementation of IT related projects would be advantageous.
Qualifications
- Relevant Information Technology qualification.
- Experienced professional with proven experience working with management systems such as Microsoft Access, Excel and SQL-based data platforms is desirable.
