Position Details

  • Ongoing, full time role based in Horsham
  • Lead a team overseeing operational functions and best practice of Community Corrections
  • Salary band of $113,022 - $136,747 plus superannuation

Community Correctional Services (CCS) contributes to the safety of the community by applying practices that reduce reoffending and connect individuals to programs, services and community. CCS provides management of individuals on court orders, people who have committed serious sex offences on post sentence supervision and prisoners on parole.

About the role:

The Grampians Region is unique, requiring a flexible approach that integrates the responsibilities of Court Assessment and Prosecutions, Court Case Management and Parole and Post sentence streams. Given the vast geographical area that the Horsham Justice Service Centre covers, the role must be adaptable to meet the evolving needs of these areas as well as staff working across these practice streams.

The role involves consulting on risk escalation, incident management, and quality assurance and reports to the Regional General Managers. Collaboration with various stakeholders, such as the Adult Parole Board, police, courts, and other correctional units, is key.

The role also requires participation in an after-hours “on-call” Duty Director system and regular travel across the Grampians region.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide direct line management and supervision of a team of staff, including case consultation, coaching and professional development
  • The role involves monitoring parole and post-sentence management, providing practice-based leadership, making authoritative decisions based on risk assessment
  • Represent the department on various government and community committees, leading and facilitating meetings
  • Report on regional trends and actively participate in the management team, supporting Regional General Manager and Director
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to design and identify service improvements

About you:

  • Extensive experience in the case management of complex and/or high-risk individuals and best practice initiatives in relation to risk management and therapeutic work with high risk and complex individuals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working within a legislative framework.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing operational teams and resource allocation to meet service delivery priorities.
  • Keeps self and others calm when under pressure; is decisive and charts course of actions enabling teams to resolve a challenging situation.
  • Coaches others and engages key stakeholders in strategic planning process. Thinks at the whole of system level and undertakes internal and external scanning, considering wide-ranging possibilities in developing a vision for the future
