The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Diversity and Engagement Supervisor to provide a critical role at Marngoneet Correctional Centre / Karreenga.

About the Business Unit

Corrections Victoria is a business unit of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). Corrections Victoria's vision is ‘Safer prisons, safer people, safer communities'. Marngoneet Correctional Centre and Karreenga Annex is a medium security facility that houses a mix of sentenced and remand men. It is located 6km north-west of Lara, 20km from the centre of Geelong and about 70km from Melbourne. The role of the facility is to contain men in custody safely, securely and humanely, focusing on the individual needs with the aim of providing a successful transition back into the community or on their continued journey through the prison system. The facility has a strong focus on achieving positive outcomes and provides a range of engaged services. Our highly skilled workforce provides supervision and case management and are dedicated to enhancing opportunities to strengthen prisoner pathways.

About the Role

The Diversity and Engagement Supervisor is a pivotal role within the Vocational Services portfolio at Marngoneet Correctional Centre/Karreenga, a facility accommodating people in custody with increasingly diverse and complex needs, including a significant remand cohort. The position will be instrumental in researching, developing and implementing innovative services and activities that support Cultural Events, Programs, Recreation and bespoke engagement initiatives.This includes individuals from multicultural, multi-faith and LGBTIQA+ communities, as well as those with varying ethnicities, races, religions, gender identities, sexual orientations, ages and abilities.

A core responsibility will be to foster a truly inclusive and respectful environment by ensuring that all people in care are assisted to access appropriate supports and services and are treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their background. This involves developing and nurturing effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including community organizations, to create meaningful and diverse engagement opportunities. The role will also facilitate professional development and training for staff, enhancing their capacity to deliver responsive and inclusive services across the location.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Manage the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of a range of services to support the 7 critical domains that work towards lowering recidivism and to support reintegration back into the community according to Correction Victoria's Strategic Plan.
  • Manage a team that includes the Diversity Officer, Recreation Officers and stakeholders, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of multi-cultural supports, cultural events and recreational activities, which includes the provision of training, advice and support.
  • Manage the orientation, training and ongoing security awareness training of all relevant staff and stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated understanding of the Corrections Victoria Reintegration Pathway and its practical application.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the seven critical domains and service delivery to address these domains.
