The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Workforce Development Supervisor to provide a critical role at Port Phillip Prison
About the Business Unit
The Corrections and Justice Services (CJS) group, comprising Corrections Victoria, Justice Health and Justice Services, plays an integral role in developing safer and more resilient communities and in delivering a trusted justice and community safety system.
Corrections Victoria is responsible for the implementation of policies, programs and services that ensure the safe and secure containment of prisoners, and that seek to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour. Corrections Victoria also sets strategy, policy and standards for the management of the state's system of correctional facilities whilst also developing programs for the management and rehabilitation of prisoners and the community-based supervision of offenders.
Port Phillip Prison (St Johns Subacute Unit) provides a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to individualised care which motivates, encourages and promotes reintegration into the community. Port Phillip has advanced technology which improves security, streamlines operations and enhances connections for the people in our care.
About the Role
The Workforce Development Supervisor is responsible for providing professional and efficient services that support the PPP's key workforce development function, strategic goals and directions. The position provides leadership for the learning, development, and training function for PPP, enabling opportunities for staff to participate in appropriate and relevant development training and working on capability development plans. The role will also work closely with the PPP executive team and stakeholders to build operational capability.
Compliance with the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) standards, coordination of trainers and assessors, and alignment with the Department of Justice and Community Services (DJCS) People and Workplace Services Learning and Development unit will ensure success in this role.
Some of your duties will include:
- Manage a wide variety of training and professional development programs for the PPP staff, including the design, delivery, and evaluation of these programs.
- Coordinate the pre-service training and maintenance of operational manning capability for custodial staff.
- Manage orientation and induction programs, staff competency training and evaluate the appropriateness and effectiveness of these training programs.
- Promote a learning environment that ensures compliance with all legislative and corporate governance requirements and Registered Training Organisation (RTO) standards.
- Scope, plan and manage projects, liaising with key stakeholders, anticipating and addressing issues, and negotiating key elements to ensure support innovative service improvements and delivery of corporate services.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of competency-based training and assessment, including the ability to plan, manage and implement training solutions.
- Ability to coordinate teams, provide internal consultancy to managers and provide authoritative advice on complex issues.
- Demonstrated ability to design, facilitate and implement a variety of training programs.
- Sound understanding of program evaluation techniques.
Qualifications/requirements
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or a relevant qualification would be highly regarded.
