About Us

The department's Youth Justice Service provides programs and resources to assist young offenders to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to manage their lives effectively without further offending. Through supervision, offending related programs and linkages to appropriate support services, the youth justice service promotes opportunities for rehabilitation and contributes to the reduction of crime in the community.

About the Role

As the Team Leader, you will provide strong leadership to a team of staff who will promote the personal development of young people who offend and contribute to the diversion and rehabilitation of the young person and the reduction of crime in the community. You will plan and manage casework and the day-to-day delivery of services to clients. You will plan, develop, implement and monitor client service plans and short and long- term intervention strategies. Your responsibilities will include supervising and providing leadership to the team, providing authoritative advice and support to Youth Justice workers and preparing reports.

About You

As our ideal candidate, you will demonstrate:

  • A strong understanding of the youth justice system and the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005
  • an advanced understanding of the principles of case management and case work
  • demonstrated leadership/mentoring skills and experience
  • excellent stakeholder management skills
  • the ability to effectively influence and negotiate
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills.

A Bachelor of Social Work or Advanced Diploma in Community Services Work is required. Other tertiary qualifications at Advanced Diploma or above will be considered, only if they include units of study in case management/casework practice and has had supervised practical work placements.

A full driver's licence is required due to the need to respond to emergencies across the state at short notice and outside business hours as required.

A current employee Working with Children Check (WWCC) card is required and will need to be provided prior to commencement of employment by the applicant. Currency will need to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.
