Prison Officer – Langi Kal Kal Prison and Hopkins Correctional Centre

Ongoing (full-time) and casual vacancies: Squad commences mid October 2019.

$33.09 per hour + super + penalty rates for evening, weekend and public holidays (casual roles)

$55,256 - $70,958 per annum + super + penalty rates for evening, weekend and public holidays (ongoing (full-time) roles)

Your career as a prison officer with Corrections Victoria

  • Share the joint responsibility for supervision of prisoners and the security of the prison on your shift.
  • Conduct cell searches, escort duties, observe and assess prisoner behaviour, and respond to incidents.
  • Provide prisoners with leadership, advice, support and guidance, without letting any personal moral judgement or stigma impact your ability to treat each prisoner with equal respect and care.
  • Collate information on prisoners in your assigned unit and document incidents and compile case management reports.

Please note:

  • To be eligible for employment, you must have unrestricted working rights in Australia and a full and current Victorian driver's licence (or a minimum P2).
  • You must successfully complete the paid full-time, eight-week pre-service training (commencing mid October 2019) to be appointed as a prison officer.

    Ongoing prison officers have guaranteed full-time hours, on a 24-hour fortnightly rotating roster.

 

About Hopkins Correctional Centre, Ararat

  • Medium security protection prison located in Ararat.
  • Houses up to 782 male prisoners.
  • Hopkins Correctional Centre is one of our most recently revamped correctional centres with modern features and comfortable facilities.
  • Industries available for prisoners to work and study include metalwork, horticulture and various TAFE courses.                  

About Langi Kal Kal Prison, Trawalla

  • Minimum security open-plan prison.
  • Houses up to 428 male prisoners.  
  • Large working farm, and is primarily a minimum security pathway for protection prisoners from Hopkins Correctional Centre.
  • Prisoners are involved in paid work in a variety of trades, which assists the individuals gaining skills and certificates that can be used in finding employment when released.
  • Includes self-sufficient accommodation units, assisting prisoners in their transition back into society.

 

Pre-employment checks

You will be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks including reference, security and health checks (please refer to the fact sheet attached). You may also be requested to attend an interview with the General Manager of the prison if further information is required at the final stages of the recruitment process.
