Ongoing and Casual Prison Officer vacancies– Marngoneet Correctional Centre

  • No specific work experience is required - we value maturity and life experience

  • $31.57 per hour for casual roles and $52,713 - $67,692 per annum for ongoing roles (+ super + penalty rates for evening and weekend shifts); with yearly pay increases.
  • Eight weeks paid squad training commences in May

Marngoneet Correctional Centre is a medium security prison. It's designed to reduce re-offending by offering a number of rehabilitation and vocational programs including employment education to increase opportunities for prisoners on release.

The physical design of Marngoneet is different to a maximum security prison. It promotes normal living conditions, shaping social interaction, where prisoners are provided living units. Marngoneet Correctional Centre promotes prisoners to improve and gain personal and social responsibility.

The design includes industry, education programs from TAFE, recreation and program facilities that provide prisoners with a setting that supports security, safety, learning and behaviour change.

Your day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • assisting with the safety and security of prisoners, your team mates and visitors.
  • working on a 24/7 rotating roster (where penalty rates apply ncluding for working weekends).
  • being involved in your assigned prisoner's Individual Management Plans, ensuring that the programs they are participating in are linked to their needs and goals.
  • conducting regular patrols, searches and security related activities aligned with our policies and procedures that you will be trained in.
  • building strong working relationships with your team mates and other stakeholders, contributing towards a positive and enjoyable working environment.
  • being a key contributor to making a positive influence on the prisoners you liaise with, and being a key contributor to assisting these individuals reintegrate positively back into society on their release.

We know that good prison officers come from a variety of backgrounds and bring a range of work experience and skills. 

No previous experience in a similar role or any particular qualifications are required, including retail management, customer service, stay at home parents, trades and farming. We also strongly encourage both females and males to apply. We look for strong capabilities in the following areas:

Security Screening and Pre Service Medical and Physical Capability Assessments

In order to be eligible for appointment to roles within Corrections Victoria which are prisons based or offender facing, applicants must be of good character and reputation and are thus subject to a number of pre-employment security checks.

These security checks will include:

  • National Criminal Record Check (and fingerprints check)
  • Pre-employment security check
  • Vic Roads License Check (or interstate or overseas if applicable)
  • Victoria Police Check

To be eligible to apply, you are required to be an Australian Citizen, an Australian Permanent Resident or a New Zealand Citizen with permanent working rights at the time of your application. 

To ensure all prison officers are capable of undertaking the physical requirements of the prison officer role, without injury to themselves or others, it is a requirement to pass a pre service medical and physical capability assessment prior to employment at the end the of the recruitment process.
