Principal Veterinary Officer – Animal Health and Welfare Policy

The position of Principal Veterinary Officer – Animal Health and Welfare Policy forms a part of the Agriculture Victoria Division within Employment, Investment and Trade Group.

The Employment, Investment and Trade Group delivers programs and services to grow the Victorian economy.  Its focus is on creating jobs and raising incomes through industry development, targeted investment and increasing the export value of Victorian firms.

This position supports the Manager Veterinary Science and Chief Veterinary Officer in the provision of high level technical, policy and strategic advice on a broad range of animal health and welfare issues, particularly in relation to the livestock industries, with a strong focus on animal welfare.

Reporting to the Manager Veterinary Science, the position will influence and provide leadership and technical direction on animal health and welfare issues at both state and national levels of government. The position will also contribute to emergency preparedness and response activities, including in relation to animal welfare.

This role requires a tertiary degree in veterinary science and registration with the Veterinary Practitioners Registration Board of Victoria along with extensive experience in the provision of high level technical and policy advice on complex animal health and welfare issues at state and/or national government levels, particularly in relation to livestock.Well-developed written and oral communication skills are vital to the role.
