Position Details

Biosecurity Officer - Apiary

  • $58,207 - $79,790 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Fixed Term to 30 June 2019
  • Usual hours of work: Full Time (flexibility may be available)
  • Usual work location: Geelong

The position of Biosecurity Officer - Apiary forms a part of the Agriculture, Food and Fibre division, Biosecurity and Agriculture Services branch within the Employment, Investment and Trade group.

Reporting to the State-wide Specialist Apiary the Biosecurity Officer - Apiary is responsible for the delivery of portions of the state-wide apiary program.

You will work as a member of a small team and support the Statewide Specialist Apiary to ensure delivery of high quality services in the areas of honey bee pest and disease surveillance, legislation and enforcement management and emergency preparedness and response. The position plays a key role in supporting both Victorian commercial and hobby beekeepers and pollination service providers and users in mitigating the economic and social effects of  endemic and exotic pests and disease of honey bees in Victoria.

As part of an integrated and flexible business model within the Biosecurity and Agriculture Services Branch, you will also provide emergency response support  as required.

You will establish e working relationships with internal staff and various external stakeholders including Victorian Apiarist Association, crop pollinastion stakeholders, Victorian beekeeping clubs and associations and other government agencies.

As components of this position are regulatory, you will be required to conduct investigations and may appear in court.

This position has responsibilities under theLivestock Disease Control Act 1994.

A mandatory tertiary degree in Science, Agricultural Science, Natuaral Resource Managemnet or an equivalent sicence qualification.
