The position of Technical Officer forms a part of the Earth Resources Policy and Programs branch in Resources division within Employment Investment and Trade group.

The Employment, Investment and Trade Group delivers programs and services to grow the Victorian economy.  Its focus is on creating jobs and raising incomes through industry development, targeted investment and increasing the export value of Victorian firms.

The Resources Division develops policy, programs and regulation to enable investment and generate jobs through the sustainable development of the State's earth resources, including extractives, minerals and petroleum.

The position of Technical Officer, reports to the Core Library Manager in the Geological Survey of Victoria (GSV) within Earth Resources Policy and Programs branch.

The Technical Officer has responsibility for assisting the management of the GSV Core Library at Werribee and providing services of data entry and integrity of a number of databases and catalogues.

 The Earth Resources Core Library is a facility used for the storage and inspection of rock specimens. These specimens are derived from minerals and petroleum exploration in both onshore and offshore Victoria, and also geo-scientific mapping projects undertaken across the state. This collection of specimens provides invaluable information to assist in the search for new mineral deposits and petroleum reserves.
