The position of Assistant Director forms a part of the Private Sector Industrial Relations team within Industrial Relations Victoria.

Industrial Relations Victoria provides strategic industrial relations policy and technical advice to Government and departments with a focus on fostering a framework based on consultation, cooperation and good faith bargaining. The division engages with employers, employees and their unions to promote a positive industrial relations environment. The division consists of three teams:

  • Central Bargaining Unit
  • Private Sector Industrial Relations
  • Employment, Information and Compliance

The Assistant Director, Private Sector provides high-level expert and strategic advice to senior management and Ministers on private sector industrial relations matters in Victoria. The Assistant Director plays a key role in identifying emerging industrial relations issues and risks and advising on workplace relations reforms and has the capacity to lead and motivate staff.

This job is responsible for providing strategic and expert advice on industrial relations policy issues and for leading the development of programs and initiatives to achieve the Government's priorities.  The successful applicant will have experience and expertise in the provision of strategic advice on industrial relations matters combined with a comprehensive knowledge of workplace relations matters; high level analytical and conceptual skills; a demonstrated capability in stakeholder engagement, preferably involving unions and/or industry groups; and excellent communication and writing skills, in order to contribute to government participation in high level reviews and inquiries. Demonstrated experience in government, employment law, or economic analysis will be highly regarded.
