Reporting to the Communications Manager, Industry and Employment, the Communications Adviser will play a key role in delivering communications for policies, programs, initiatives and ministerial events under the Industry and Employment portfolio and ensuring a coordinated communications approach working closely with communications colleagues across the department. 

The position operates in a complex and demanding environment, necessitating resilience and a sound understanding of government. The incumbent will be able to work autonomously and in a team.

Specialist knowledge of and experience in the Manufacturing sector would be highly regarded.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Develop and deliver high quality strategic and tactical communications for portfolio areas within the EIT Group, including strategy development, stakeholder analysis and engagement support, media relations, public relations, reputational risks and issues management.
  • Develop and deliver high-quality, accurate communication materials to support ministerial events within required timeframes, maintaining strict confidentiality and in line with DEDJTR's communication policies and processes.
  • Contribute to the development of high-level narratives for EIT Group portfolios, ensuring strong and consistent key messaging within the Whole of Victorian Government economic development narrative that is used consistently across all EIT portfolio communications.
  • Monitor and improve the performance of communication activities against strategic priorities and business objectives, in line with best practice communication tools and techniques.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Significant experience in planning and delivering high-quality communications through a variety of channels, preferably in a government or regulatory environment, on time, within budget and with high-level attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated creativity in thinking beyond the traditional strategic avenues for communications and policy implementation strategies, and the ability to apply new communication approaches to issues and problems (i.e. social and new media technologies).
  • Proven ability to work in a complex, politically sensitive and demanding government/industry environment, with a high degree of responsibility and resilience to meet urgent deadlines and changing priorities; proactive in identifying issues and opportunities and taking the initiative to advise management of potential areas of resolution and / or development.
