This position works in the Animal Production Sciences Unit of Agriculture Victoria Research and will undertake research activities within the Dairy Feedbase program. The appointee will focus on research projects that aim to improve the profitability of pasture-based dairy systems. This will be achieved through innovative research and science excellence, supported by technical efficiency, business processes, technology adoption and knowledge management. The appointee will also contribute to other associated dairy or livestock research projects and activities. The successful applicant will work effectively as a member of a team, enjoy flexible working arrangements, and undertake a wide variety of work across the division.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

• A degree in Agricultural Science, Science or an equivalent science qualification, with post-graduate qualifications in agricultural economics, farming management economics, farm systems analysis or a relevant science discipline.
• Developed critical analysis and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to design, conduct, evaluate and report on research findings.
• An understanding of the key issues facing the Victorian dairy and livestock industries.

To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the technical and economic dimensions of dairy and livestock farming systems along with research experience undertaking farm system economics and risk analyses.  If you have well-developed communication skills as well as experience of effective participation in research project teams and in a multi-disciplinary team environment, then this could be the position for you.

This is a fixed term position available for a period of 3 years. The work location for this position is Ellinbank or AgriBio Bundoora preferred with hybrid work arrangements available.
