Position Details

TECHNICAL ASSISTANT (2 positions)

  • $49,216 – $63,201 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Fixed Term - 3 years and 14 months
  • Usual hours of work: Full Time (flexibility may be available)
  • Usual work location: Horsham

The position of Technical Assistant is part of the Agriculture Victoria Research Division's Plant Sciences Branch in the Employment, Investment and Trade Group.

You will provide support for research projects within the molecular pulse breeding program at Horsham.  You will work with research scientists and other technical staff engaged in breeding and germplasm enhancement research for lentils, field peas, chickpeas and faba bean.

For success in this position, you will demonstrate –

  • an understanding of concepts in plant breeding and/or crop productions systems;
  • a willingness to learn, lead areas of work, complete work in a timely manner and a desire for continuous improvement;
  • capability in the safe and effective use of farm machinery, farm and laboratory equipment, hand tools, chemicals, and horticultural materials;
  • ability to accurately observe, collect and prepare data from the field and glasshouse experiments, and to accurately follow instructions;
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team, to operate under minimal supervision and show a high level of initiative and effective time management skills
  • effective oral and written communication skills; and
  • computer skills and an ability to collect, record and process experimental data using Microsoft Excel and other software.
