Position Details


  • $50,828 - $65,272 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Fixed Term to 30 June 2019
  • Usual hours of work: Full Time (flexibility may be available)
  • Usual work location: Horsham

This position offers the opportunity to combine your interest in computer software and hardware with a liking for outdoor work.  You will provide support to field, laboratory and glasshouse research activities of the plant pathology research program.  The role involves –

  • collecting data and storing it electronically;
  • maintaining grain warehousing and data collection systems;
  • managing and packing of grain for field trials; and
  • collecting soil and plant samples.

For appointment to this position, you will demonstrate –

  • ability to accurately and efficiently collate and manage experimental data using a range of software applications;
  • ability to pack seed for trials and process plant/soil/grain samples;
  • aptitude to solve laboratory hardware and electronic database problems and implement solutions;
  • a capacity for safe, independent work, at times in remote locations; and
  • team skills, including good communication, initiative and organisational skills.

The position of Technical Assistant is part of the Agriculture Victoria Research Division's Microbial Sciences, Pests & Diseases Branch of the Employment, Investment and Trade Group.

The Employment, Investment and Trade Group delivers programs and services to grow the Victorian economy.  Its focus is on creating jobs and raising incomes through industry development, targeted investment and increasing the export value of Victorian firms.
