Position Details

Veterinary Officer

  • $92,253 - $111,619 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Fixed Term – 3 Years   
  • Usual hours of work: Full Time (flexibility may be available)
  • Usual work location: Ballarat

The position of Veterinary Officer forms a part of the Agriculture, Food & Fibre division, Agriculture Services and Biosecurity Operations branch within the Agriculture, Food & Fibre group.

As a Veterinary Officer you will work as a member of the Animal Health and Welfare (AHW) Unit, to ensure the delivery of major animal health projects that include disease surveillance; livestock legislation and enforcement management; emergency preparedness and response; and traceability and auditing.

Reporting to the District Veterinary Officer, the position will need a thorough understanding of the AHW Branch and its functions including:

  • Protecting domestic and export markets for livestock products by preventing, monitoring and controlling diseases and pests,
  • Protecting public health by preventing, monitoring and controlling diseases transmissible from livestock to humans, and
  • Optimising the welfare of farm livestock

You will need to develop a good rapport with other members of the team to maximise the delivery of Animal Health services and emergency preparedness and response activities.  You will need high levels of personal resilience and self-management to perform the Veterinary Officer role. You must work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment and with other agencies such as Victoria Police, CFA, and private vets within the relevant region.

A mandatory tertiary degree in Veterinary Science registrable with the Veterinary Practitioners Registration Board of Victoria.
