Position Details

MICROBIOLOGIST – VETERINARY DIAGNOSTIC

  • $57,206 - $78,418 (plus superannuation)
  • Fixed Term – 2 years
  • Usual hours of work: Full time or Part time (0.8 FTE) (flexibility is available)
  • Usual work location: Bendigo

Develop your career, whilst enjoying work life balance in Bendigo, one of Victoria's most vibrant and contemporary regional centres.  In this major pork producing state, our farmers need your skills and experience to provide veterinary microbiology diagnostic services.  This position offers opportunities for career development and to build skills in emergency response.

As an important contributor to the development of new diagnostic tests, you will improve existing products as well as support the staff at the Pig Services Centre when required.

More specifically you will:

  • deliver diagnostic services by carrying out sample testing to agreed procedures, delivering on time and to the expected quality standards;
  • manage the daily workflow of the receipt and testing of samples, as well as providing advice on sample submission, pig pathogens and recent trends to managers and veterinarians;
  • collaborate on projects that enhance research partnerships;
  • conduct research and development as required to develop and/or optimise diagnostic procedures;
  • support vaccine production and other activities within the Pig Services Centre; and
  • prepare regulatory documentation, review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), deviations, investigations, change control, equipment qualification and validation, and corrective and preventive actions.

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • a degree in science, microbiology, biochemistry or an equivalent science qualification, plus experience in microbiology and serology;
  • an excellent understanding of diagnostic microbiology laboratory practices, including extensive knowledge of quality and NATA accreditation;
  • skills in problem solving, influencing and negotiating, and
  • excellent written communication skills.
