The Game Management Authority (GMA) is an independent statutory authority responsible for the regulation of game hunting in Victoria. It delivers programs to improve and promote sustainable and responsible hunting in Victoria.

The GMA is responsible for:

• issuing Game Licences and related testing;

• managing open and closed seasons for game species;

• enforcing game hunting laws and taking action against those who do not hunt legally; and

• educating and informing hunters on how to hunt legally and responsibly in Victoria.

Senior Game Officers (SGOs) are appointed as Authorised Officers under the Conservation, Forests and Lands Act 1987 and exercise law enforcement powers which include the enforcement of public safety legislation.

SGOs engage with a variety of stakeholders, including government and community groups under direction from the Team Leader to deliver high quality community-focussed, state wide compliance services within Victoria (East Vic or West). 

In accordance with state-wide strategic objectives and priorities and in order to maximise compliance, SGOs actively contribute to the development and implementation of appropriate enforcement, education and strategies, and at times operate within highly charged and emotional environments related to hunting and forestry protests.


  • A qualification as an Authorised Officer Basic (Legal 1) or equivalent and a current Victorian Driver's Licence are mandatory for this role.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in natural resource management, ideally with experience in game or wildlife management
  • Hold or willing to obtain a Client Interaction, Defensive Tactics (CIDT2) training or equivalent
  • Previous experience in using four-wheel drive vehicles, vessels, all-terrain vehicles would be advantageous
  • Hold or willing to obtain and maintain a four-wheel driving (proficiency level) certificate
  • Hold or willing to obtain a Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal certificate
  • Hold or willing to obtain and maintain a First aid (level 2) certificate


To be successful in this role you will have highly developed interpersonal skills and sound judgement.  You will enjoy building and developing effective client relationships.  Strong planning and organisational skills are vital to this role.
