Focussing on dairy cattle, you will join a large research team which interacts with industry partners and fosters the careers of PhD students. The team’s focus is innovation for new and existing breeding values.

This role is within the Agriculture Victoria Research Division, part of DEDJTR’s Employment, Investment and Trade Group which delivers programs and services to grow the Victorian economy. Its focus is on creating jobs and raising incomes through industry development, targeted investment and increasing the export value of Victorian firms.

Position Details

As the Research Scientist – Computational Biology reporting to the Principal Research Scientist – Computational Biology, you will:

  • Contribute to a team that focuses on innovation for new and existing breeding values for the dairy sector
  • Contribute to a suite of research projects and deliver on project milestones
  • Communicate research results
  • Coach and mentor colleagues and PhD students

The successful applicant will have a relevant degree, at a minimum, plus:

  • Specialist knowledge of quantitative genetics, genomic selection and application to animal breeding programs, and associated peer-reviewed publications
  • Skills in processing and analysing data for genetic/genomic analysis
  • Ability to perform complex statistical analyses and to write computer programs
  • Capacity to work with large datasets using Linux/Unix computer platforms
  • High-level communication skills
