Position Details


  • $50,828 - $65,272 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Fixed Term, 3 years 
  • Usual hours of work: Full Time (flexibility may be available)
  • Usual work location: Horsham

This position offers a combination of outdoor and laboratory-based work.  The role consists of establishing and monitoring field and glasshouse based experiments, data collection, preparing and establishing disease assays, and conducting research into frost and heat tolerance in pulses.

The successful candidate will demonstrate –

  • a willingness to learn, lead areas of work, complete work in a timely manner and a desire for continuous improvement;
  • an understanding of parameters important in plant growth;
  • the capacity to work independently, to operate under minimal supervision in remote sites, a high level of initiative and effective time management skills;
  • good written and oral communication skills;
  • computer skills and an ability to collect, record and process experimental data using Microsoft Excel and other software; and
  • attention to detail, to enable accurate recording of field notes.

The position of Technical Assistant is part of the Plant Sciences Branch in the Agriculture Victoria Research Division of the Employment, Investment and Trade Group.

The Employment, Investment and Trade Group delivers programs and services to grow the Victorian economy.  Its focus is on creating jobs and raising incomes through industry development, targeted investment and increasing the export value of Victorian firms.
