About the role

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in all matters pertaining to the Victorian Fisheries Authority's (VFA) audited annual financial statements, as presented in its Annual Report to Parliament. You will be accountable for ensuring the Authority has a good practice budget and financial management function that fully complies with legislation and government policies and operates efficiently and effectively.

As the CFO, you will be an integral part of the Authority's leadership team, providing vision and leadership of the Authority's financial management, service delivery and asset performance, driving performance improvement. You will lead the planning and implementation of budget, financial, advisory and compliance strategies across the Authority.

A core part of this role is forging a strong relationship with the VFA Board, the VFA executive team, the Department of Transport (DoT), other portfolio entities, central agencies and other key stakeholders.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual who has excellent leadership abilities, be pro-active and focus outcome driven. 

A tertiary qualification in accounting or relevant discipline, and CPA and/or CA membership are expected. Current or previous experience in public sector financial management is highly desirable.


As our ideal candidate you will have;

  • A strong understanding of contemporary public sector financial management and internal control strategies, frameworks and issues.
  • Demonstrated record of achievement in managing, organising, prioritising and resolving competing and complex financial issues through to successful completion.
  • Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills including a record of achievement in the provision of strategic advice to senior management or government.
