The position of Senior Road Safety Policy Officer forms a part of the Network Strategy Branch in Policy and Reform Division within Transport for Victoria Group.

Transport for Victoria (DEDJTR) is led by the Head, Transport for Victoria and staffed by DEDJTR employees. They are responsible for the creation of transport system policy and reforms, legislative development, network planning, asset and network development, rolling stock development, operational coordination and investment and engagement with users and Transport for Victoria agencies, including PTV and VicRoads.

The role of Senior Road Safety Policy Officer sits in the Road Safety Planning team in Transport for Victoria.  The focus of the role is the forward planning and coordination of Transport for Victoria's program of road safety policy development.  Drawing on the outputs of consultation, commissioned research, data analysis the role provides policy advice to internal stakeholders and Victoria's road safety partners (Victoria Police, the Department of Health, the Department of Justice and Regulation, the Transport Accident Commission and VicRoads) 

Drawing on current research evidence, expert opinion, community views and an awareness of the political climate, the Senior Road Safety Policy Officer will shape and present advice that advances the Government's efforts to reduce road trauma. The Senior Road Safety Policy Officer will support the delivery and evaluation of Victoria's Towards Zero road safety and contribute to the development of subsequent strategies. Towards Zero is based on the “Safe System” approach to road safety, and this role requires a sound understanding of Safe System thinking.

The Senior Road Safety Policy Officer will work closely with a small team of data analysists to apply insights drawn from crash and travel data and will develop recommendations for a pipeline of future research that supports Victoria's road safety agenda.
