This position is well suited to highly motivated professionals with a strong track record in project management, policy implementation and knowledge of relevant Government policy - especially safety and skills development in agriculture.  The role involves helping set up and deliver the Smarter, Safer Farms, a multi-year program with a dual focus on farm safety and wellbeing, as well as targeted skills development. This includes helping establish two leadership bodies, the Farm Safety Council and Farm Skills Victoria.

The successful candidate appointed to this position will demonstrate –

  • an understanding of the practices and standards associated with designing and implementing projects, preferably within an agriculture and public policy context;
  • well-developed policy analysis skills
  • ability to manage committees and non-departmental entities
  • a record of managing relationships with peers, partners, industry and other stakeholders to effectively address key policy challenges;
  • sound organisational skills and capacity to develop administrative approaches to meet governance and evaluation requirements; and
  • ability to deliver high level written communication.

As part of the Machinery of Government changes announced by the Premier of Victoria, from 1 Jan 2019 DEDJTR transitioned into the Department of Transport (DoT) & the Department of Jobs, Precincts & Regions (DJPR).  The position of Senior Program Officer sits within the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions (DJPR) within Agriculture Policy branch of the Agriculture Victoria group.  Agriculture Victoria works with industry and community stakeholders to support the agriculture, food and fibre sector to become more globally competitive, innovative and resilient.
