This position sits within the Commercial Legal team in the Legal & Legislation Branch, which is part of the Corporate Services Group in the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions. The Department's role is to ensure Victoria's strong economic performance by growing industries and regions.

The Legal & Legislation Branch is responsible for providing legal and legislative advice and support on a broad range of matters across the Department.  Legal issues covered include commercial and contractual matters, administrative law and public law matters, and occasional litigation arising from the administration of portfolio legislation for a diverse client group including project and policy officers and administrative decision makers in the Department's Victorian and international offices.  The Branch is also responsible for delivering the Department's legislative program of bills, regulations and other statutory instruments.

To be successful in this role you will have an extensive experience as a Government lawyer or in corporate or private practice particularly in the area of commercial contract drafting and negotiations. You should also have demonstrated ability to provide strategic and authoritative advice on legal, legislative and policy issues under tight timelines. You must be admitted, or eligible to be admitted to practise as a lawyer in Victoria.
