The Team

The position of Irrigation Extension Officer forms a part of the Biosecurity and Agriculture Services (BAS) Branch within the Agriculture Victoria Group. This Branch designs and delivers services, provides technical advice and influences policy to support the agriculture sector to achieve sustainable growth while managing risks and minimising adverse impacts to the economy, environment and public health and safety.

The Role

Reporting to the Team Leader, Irrigation Services, you will be trained to case manage irrigators in the Goulburn Broken Catchment in the planning and development of best practice farm irrigation systems with support from your supervisor. The position will ensure irrigation modernisation projects are implemented as part of a whole farm systems approach and you will work in a range of areas including salinity management, agriculture technology and appropriate irrigation system selection.

The role involves a mix of office and field based work and would suit someone looking to develop expertise in irrigation management and extension.

As a member of a supportive and experienced team working across northern Victoria, you will be well supported to develop your technical knowledge of irrigation and agriculture extension through formal and on the job training opportunities.  Working as part of a state-wide team there are also opportunities to further develop your career and knowledge of different farming systems through this strong collaborative network.

About You

Are you a recent graduate or looking to gain diverse regional experience in an entry level position in agricultural extension?

To be successful in this role, you will have an understanding of the agriculture sector in Victoria and the importance of irrigated agriculture.  If you have experience in developing written and verbal communication materials along with demonstrated time management and project planning skills, then this could be the position for you.
