  • Usual work location: Bundoora (flexibility may be available)

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Technical Assistant to join our cereals crop genetics team. You will support research that aims to understand the genetic architecture and molecular basis of trait variation in cereal crops using next-generation genetic and genomic technologies and molecular breeding tools.  The role is part of a multi-disciplinary team utilising a systems biology approach to integrate phenotype, genotype, transcriptome and genomic datasets for wheat improvement.

The successful candidate for this position will demonstrate –

  • good knowledge of laboratory techniques used for plant molecular genetics, including DNA extraction, DNA genotyping and DNA/RNA sequencing;
  • experience working in a high sample throughput laboratory in which techniques for molecular biology were applied, including DNA extractions;
  • excellent record keeping skills;
  • ability to work under general supervision and to meet agreed timelines; and
  • self-motivation with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

The position of Technical Assistant is part of the Agriculture Victoria Research branch of the Agriculture Victoria group.  Agriculture Victoria works with industry and community stakeholders to support the agriculture, food and fibre sector to become more globally competitive, innovative and resilient.
