The Senior Communications Adviser has the responsibility for developing and delivering high-quality communications to support the achievement of government priorities and departmental objectives.  The role will assist in delivering communications for policies, programs, initiatives and ministerial events for Regional Development Victoria. 

The position is responsible for producing and distributing written material, managing the workflow of a team and providing communications advice and support to senior managers and staff on communications, stakeholder engagement and media issues.  The position operates in a complex and demanding environment, necessitating resilience and a sound understanding of government.

Our ideal candidate is a true media professional, a storyteller.  A communications specialist  with strong media adviser and/or journalism experience would be highly regarded.

The successful candidate for this position will be able demonstrate –

  • experience in planning and delivering high-quality communications through a variety of channels, preferably in a government or regulatory environment;
  • expertise in delivering communications and media materials for media events, as well as coordinating the development and delivery of media events and video and visual assets for web and social media;
  • strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • creativity in thinking beyond the traditional strategic avenues for communications and policy implementation strategies, proactivity in identifying issues and opportunities, and the ability to apply new communication approaches to issues and problems; and
  • ability to engage with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders with the capability to influence and negotiate.

The position of Senior Communications Advisor is part of the Strategic Communications and Marketing branch of the Inclusion group.  Our group champions the fair distribution of benefits that stem from a strong economy.
