The position of Strategic Advisor forms a part of the Corporate Services Group / Investment & Procurement.

The Investment and Procurement Branch provides strategic advice and professional services to the business and our Ministers, creating value by improving performance and sustainability across the DJPR portfolios in line with its objectives. 

The Strategic Adviser ensures that authoritative, strategic and practical advice is provided to the Executive Director Investment & Procurement (ED) about complex and sensitive matters. The Strategic Adviser is the key point of contact for the ED and supports the ED in his or her duties, including reviewing briefs, preparing board presentations, attending and organising meetings, providing quality reviews of key documents and managing stakeholders.

The main key accountabilities of the role are:

  • Review and advise on briefings, memoranda, meeting papers etc, including identifying areas of possible concern and areas on which to focus attention.
  • Use influence, organisational insight and strong relationships with staff across the branch to progress policy issues, briefings and pieces of work requiring action on behalf of branch executive
  • Prepare presentations, papers, briefings and reports incorporating information from across the I&P branch and other areas of the Department.
  • Develop, manage and maintain excellent relationships with staff from across DJPR, central agencies, Ministerial Offices and within the Corporate Services branch
  • Expand and maintain a strong understanding of government processes and compliance obligations, sensitivities and the complexities of the government operating environment. Advise on solutions to issues arising across the Department, including proactively identifying possible problems and challenges before they emerge.
  • Provide support to the Executive Director during meetings, including actioning items on behalf of the branch executive, at the conclusion of meetings
