Position Details

TECHNICAL OFFICER

  • $68,884 – $83,640 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Fixed Term, until 30 June 2021
  • Usual hours of work: Full Time (flexibility may be available)
  • Usual work location: Irymple (Mildura)

Join a team conducting field experiments on perennial horticultural crops, principally almonds, but also other crops.  The role involves data collection, collation, entry, curation and summarising.  It also involves sampling plant material and soils, harvesting plots, processing nuts and operating specialised scientific field and laboratory equipment, and conducting experiments under controlled conditions.  The position will train and supervise casual and technical support staff.

The successful candidate for this position will demonstrate –

  • knowledge and understanding of horticultural crop production systems, including irrigation, fertilisation and pest and disease management;
  • ability to run high quality field and glasshouse experiments, including establishment, maintenance, harvesting and data collection;
  • capacity to work outdoors in climatic extremes;
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team, to operate under minimal supervision, prioritise and delegate tasks, show a high level of initiative and effectively manage time;
  • good oral and written communication skills; and
  • expertise in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel.

The position of Technical Officer is part of the Agriculture Victoria Research branch in the Agriculture Victoria group.  Agriculture Victoria works with industry and community stakeholders to support the agriculture, food and fibre sector to become more globally competitive, innovative and resilient.
