Position Details


  • $52,493 -$67,410 (Plus Superannuation)

  • Usual hours of work: Full Time (flexibility may be available)
  • Usual work location: Horsham (flexibility may be available)

This position in the pulse research team involves a mix of outdoor, glasshouse and laboratory-based work.  A strong focus will be in pathology, with duties including growing diseases in the laboratory, the preparation of field and glasshouse experiments, field sampling of plants, inoculation of plants with disease, and data recording.  Establishment, maintenance and data collection from field trials is also involved, as well as the occasional need to supervise and manage small teams of casual staff.

The successful candidate for this position will demonstrate –

  • basic understanding of concepts in plant breeding and/or crop production systems;
  • willingness to learn, lead areas of work, complete work in a timely manner and a desire for continuous improvement;
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team, to operate under minimal supervision and show a high level of initiative and effective time management skills;
  • good oral and written communication skills; and
  • computer skills and an ability to collect, record and process experimental data using Microsoft Excel and other software.

The position of Technical Assistant is part of the Agriculture Victoria Research branch in the Agriculture Victoria group.  Agriculture Victoria works with industry and community stakeholders to support the agriculture, food and fibre sector to become more globally competitive, innovative and resilient.
