Principal Petroleum Engineer

The Principal Petroleum Engineer is responsible for establishing, maintaining and applying contemporary, risk and outcome based standards for petroleum operations across Victoria to minimise related impacts on members of the public, land, infrastructure and the environment throughout the full resource life cycle.

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Technical Services, you will assess, specify and ensure that petroleum standards and control systems are implemented by sector operators, including communicating the specialist knowledge necessary to effectively manage petroleum risks.  You will also prepare and deliver educational information on the requirements for assessing and specifying petroleum risks and controls for Earth Resources Regulation officers, industry operators, other agencies and community members, including contributing to the preparation of industry performance standards and guidelines and drawing on interstate and international approaches.

Holding tertiary qualifications in petroleum engineering or equivalent, you will have significant experience developing and implementing fit-for-purpose petroleum standards, operational strategies, risk frameworks, policies, procedures and practices, preferably in a regulated context.  Your strong industry, government or consulting experience in the petroleum sector with practical experience working in the design, development, operation and decommissioning of petroleum sites will enable you to build consensus at senior levels with private and public sector organisations on complex projects and issues.
