Position Details
TECHNICAL ASSISTANT (3 Positions)
- $52,493 to $67,410 (Plus Superannuation)
- Casual, 4 months
- Usual hours of work: Casual, as required
- Usual work location: Bundoora or Mildura (negotiable)
These positions provide technical assistance in field and laboratory settings for a multidisciplinary team, undertaking research on applied insect chemical ecology, integrated pest management, invertebrate diagnostics, weed management and biological control of invertebrate pests and weeds. Field work will be conducted in regional Victoria, including Agriculture Victoria's regional centres located at Tatura and Mildura. A background in entomology, biology and or chemistry, with research and fieldwork experience is highly desirable.
The successful candidates will demonstrate –
- experience in one or more of the following areas: biosecurity research or operations, entomology, botany, undertaking biossays, maintaining insect cultures, biological control, insect diagnostics, IPM in orchards, weed management, field experiments, sorting and counting insects;
- experience working in a laboratory environment with an understanding of working within protocols and have experience in accurately collecting and recording scientific data;
- ability to operate under minimal supervision, including a high level of initiative and effective time management skills, and as part of a team; and
- proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs.
The positions of Technical Assistant are part of the Agriculture Victoria Research branch in the Agriculture Victoria group.
