Position Details

FARM HAND (5 positions)

  • $52,493 - $67,410 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Casual, 6 months
  • Usual hours of work: casual as required
  • Usual work location: Ellinbank (flexibility may be available)

The positions of Farm Hand are part of the Agriculture Victoria Research branch of the Agriculture Victoria group.  Agriculture Victoria works with industry and community stakeholders to support the agriculture, food and fibre sector to become more globally competitive, innovative and resilient.

The Farm Hands will provide practical support for a range of farming activities on a research farm with approximately 500 Holstein dairy cows, a modern dairy, and state-of-the-art livestock handling facilities. The roles involve milking cows on a milking roster, monitoring pasture growth, managing feeding of pastures and supplements, monitoring herd welfare and health, and monitoring dairy maintenance and cleanliness. The people in this position will work with other farm staff, interact with technical staff and scientists, and provide support to deliver farm outcomes and research activities.

The successful candidates for this position will demonstrate –

  • Sound knowledge and experience in milking cow husbandry and health, feeding pastures and supplements to dairy cows, and the operation and maintenance of a modern dairy;
  • ability to collect and manage farm data with experience in Dairy software, the Microsoft™ suite, as well as internet and email applications;
  • ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written formats;
  • ability to work well with others in the pursuit of team goals; and
  • ability to identify appropriate processes, tasks and resources required to achieve a goal, identify critical activities and operations and review and adjust as required
