The position of Senior Policy Advisor forms a part of the Medical Research branch within the Jobs Innovation & Business Engagement group.

The Innovation and Medical Research branch works to foster Victoria's innovation agenda by delivering policies and strategies to drive innovation and provides leadership and direction on strategy, policy, and program development for the Victorian medical research sector. 

The branch is responsible for the development and implementation of Victoria's innovation agenda, with a strong focus on strengthening Victoria's startup ecosystem and improving the access to finance for Victoria's entrepreneurs. In addition, the branch provides strategic advice to Government, manages its investments in health and medical research and partners with the Victorian health and medical research sector to deliver key priorities through a range of programs and initiatives.

Reporting to the Manager, Office of Health and Medical Research, the Senior Policy Advisor will lead work to deliver key policy initiatives that deliver government policy and strategic objectives in health and medical research to support job and economic growth in Victoria. The incumbent will ideally have experience in health and medical research.

The key accountabilities of the role are:

  • Research and development of policy advice relating to medical research.
  • Provision of policy advice to the office of Minister for Health and Medical Research and DJPR Executive.
  • Consultation with key stakeholders within the research sector and industry partners leading genomics research initiatives in Victoria.
  • Work in collaboration with other government departments including DHHS and DPC on genomics related proposals and initiatives.
