The Level Crossing Removal Authority (LXRA) was established in 2015 to oversee one of the largest rail infrastructure projects in Victoria’s history, including the elimination of 50 dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne by 2022. To date, 29 level crossings have been removed, 14 train stations have been rebuilt, new track has been laid, and three level crossing removals are now in construction. Principal Lawyer

  • Salary range of $116,863 – 156,387 plus superannuation
  • Two full time, fixed term VPS 6 opportunities for up to 3 years

An exceptional opportunity exists for two suitably qualified and experienced Principal Lawyers to join the Level Crossing Removal Authority (LXRA), working on one of the largest infrastructure projects in Victoria's history.

Reporting to the Director, Legal the Principal Lawyer will be responsible for managing and coordinating all legal matters associated with the Level Crossing Removal Project (LCRP), including planning, procurement and delivery activities, and preparing Ministerial briefings and cabinet submissions.

The position will also be responsible for interfacing with the LCRP's external legal advisors to ensure a consistent and agreed approach is taken on legal positions which support the LCRP's objectives and the Major Transport Infrastructure Program.

Key to your application will be your demonstrable experience in providing legal and commercial advice on major infrastructure/construction projects, or equivalent transferrable experience. Your demonstrated practical knowledge of key legal and regulatory issues that may arise in the procurement and delivery of major infrastructure/construction projects will also ensure your success in this critical role.
