Senior Legal and Policy Counsel

  • $120,692 to $141,102 plus superannuation
  • Fixed Term (2 years)   
  • Usual hours of work: Part Time 0.6 FTE, job share arrangement

The position of Senior Legal and Policy Counsel forms a part of the Corporate Services branch within Transport Safety Victoria.

The Senior Legal and Policy Counsel is responsible for the provision of authoritative specialist legal advice in relation to compliance and enforcement, permissioning and disciplinary processes, corporate issues (including procurement matters and contract management), freedom of information, privacy laws, occupational health and safety and general administrative law matters.

The role also represents TSV at courts and tribunals as required, including managing the conduct of prosecutions, disciplinary proceedings, applications for review and general litigation in courts and tribunals. The incumbent will promote and encourage quality decision making within TSV. The role also engages with risk and public sector governance issues across the organisation, including participating in the conduct of risk assessment and risk management activities

To be successful in this role you will have a current Victorian Practising Certificate, as well as extensive post-admission legal experience gained in an in-house legal department, law firm, regulator or government agency. You will have knowledge of standards, legislation, policies and procedures, guidelines and regulations from a whole of government perspective, as well as in relation to the transport safety portfolio. Litigation experience will be highly regarded.
