Transport Safety Victoria (TSV) is the safety regulator responsible for ensuring safe passenger transport and boating for all Victorians. The Rail Safety Branch is responsible for driving safety outcomes that best serve the Victorian and Australian public.

Are you a Rail Engineer with experience in design, construction, maintenance or operations of Rolling Stock or Track and Civil Infrastructure? We want you to bring your passion for safety to reduce injuries and strive for safe railways for Victoria and Australia. You will be responsible for developing broad-ranging strategies, mechanism and interventions to increase awareness, improve capabilities and enhance systems to ensure significant improvements in safety across Victoria.

Your will be required to:

  • Provide a high level of technical expertise, advice and support to internal and external stakeholders of all levels
  • Capture and codify existing public transport safety expertise, knowledge and best practice
  • Initiate and lead the identification of complex technical rolling stock, wheel-rail interface or track and civil related infrastructure, safety systems and rail operational issues
  • Provide leadership, coaching and guidance to TSV staff in the conduct of compliance audits, and reviewing technical submissions
  • Review and analysis of submissions from rail operators for compliance and accreditation matters including submissions for major rail infrastructure projects
  • Lead reviews and analysis of complex operational and rolling stock or infrastructure incidents and trends at State and national levels, and provide recommendations

To be successful, you will need

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering.
  • A high level of knowledge and understanding of rail engineering standards and interfaces with rail operations and rail industry safe working arrangements
  • Demonstrated capacity to identify technical issues, undertake technical investigations and audits
  • Understanding of new and emerging technologies relating to rolling stock or track and civil infrastructure design and wheel-rail interface issues.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Records Check prior to commencing employment with Transport Safety Victoria.
