The position of Policy Officer – Biosecurity forms a part of the Agriculture Victoria Group within the Animal Welfare Victoria & Agriculture Regulatory Policy Branch.

The Animal Welfare Victoria and Agriculture Regulatory Policy Branch brings together agriculture and animal welfare policy and regulatory functions across the Agriculture portfolio.
The Policy Officer, Biosecurity is part of a multidisciplinary team that provides advice to the Minister for Agriculture and senior executive officers about policy and legislation that applies to the threat of invasive species to Victoria's economy, environment and social amenity. The management of invasive species is a high-profile policy area with a broad range of stakeholders. The role will also be engaged in biosecurity matters more broadly including the development of policy and legislation relating to food safety and animal and plant biosecurity.
The main key accountabilities for the role include:
- Contribute to an ongoing reform program of policy and legislation to facilitate the efficient and effective implementation of Government policy.
- Provide timely and high quality advice on complex and sensitive policy issues and proposals and prepare and review quality reports, briefings and ministerial correspondence as required for the Minister, policy manager, and senior management.
- Liaise, negotiate and collaborate across government and with a broad range of stakeholders on invasive species policy, legislation and other biosecurity related matters.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, timelines and priorities in a complex and rapidly changing environment, under limited supervision.
- Other duties as required by Manager commensurate to VPS level. Adopt and apply OH&S policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment and support the department's role in emergency management.
