About the role:
You will act as an advocate handling complex casework, predominantly in indictable and summary criminal law, appearing at the Latrobe Valley Magistrates Court, Children's Court and County Court as well as the Koori divisions of each court.  You will balance this practice with rostered duty lawyer commitments in the criminal and family violence fast racking division as well as providing outreach services at other Gippsland Courts from time to time. You may also be required to undertake casework and advocacy in family violence and child protection matters.

You will be a part of the senior lawyer team, participate in community legal education projects and contribute to the implementation and review of the Gippsland Regional Office Plan and VLA Strategic Plan. Depending on your level of experience you will also supervise the provision of our legal aid services in the region.

About you:
You will have significant advocacy experience, an interest in law and policy reform, and the ability to lead and mentor staff. You will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders, as well as communicate effectively with clients. To be successful in this role you will have a passion for advocating for disadvantaged clients with legal issues and also demonstrate a willingness to contribute to the promotion of our organisation and its values.
