About the role:
We are currently seeking an experienced lawyer with people management and leadership capabilities to assist the Program Manager of Family Law in the day to day operational management of our Parenting Disputes team. In collaboration with the Program Manager you will contribute to the development of less experienced lawyers and contribute to the development, implementation and review of the Family Law business plan.

You will act as a senior lawyer and advocate by undertaking complex legal work and duty lawyer services, providing expert legal advice and conducting high level casework primarily in family law, family violence and other related matters. You will also lead community legal education projects, law reform and other Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) projects as required.

This is a permanent employment opportunity for an experienced lawyer looking to develop their leadership skills within a dynamic team and contribute to improving legal aid services across the Family Law program area.

About you:
You will be an experienced lawyer looking to take the next step in your career and an interest in people management and leadership. You will have people management and leadership capabilities with the ability to develop, manage and motivate a team legal and support staff.

You will have substantial knowledge or practical experience in providing quality legal services with a focus on the family law jurisdiction. You will have the capacity to work as a senior advocate and caseworker in complex matters, predominately in family law, family violence and other related matters. You will be able to provide strategic advice on legal and policy issues and demonstrate an understanding of the role of external organisations, private practitioners, community and welfare groups in the delivery of legal aid services.

To be successful in this role you will have a willingness to contribute to the promotion of our organisation’s vision and values.

With over 700 staff employed in 14 offices across Victoria, we help people with their legal problems by providing information, advice and education with a focus on the prevention and early resolution of legal problems. We also provide legal representation to those who need it most.

Employee benefits:
We offer attractive employment benefits including salary packaging (making part of your salary tax-free), flexible working arrangements, family friendly policies and opportunities for professional development. Whilst the work is challenging, you will be rewarded with a culture that is focused on achieving quality outcomes for disadvantaged Victorians.
