Position Details

The Senior Policy Officer is responsible for research and analysis on current and emerging telecommunications issues facing the Victorian Government. They will be preparing strategic recommendations on complex policy and project issues to senior, executive management and Ministers on a broad variety of government-led telecommunications projects.

Knowledge of current and emerging telecommunications issues is highly desirable.

The key accountabilities are:

  • Independently undertake complex assessments and prepare high-level policy/project briefings, research papers and correspondence for and on behalf of the Minister and senior management.
  • Support the development of telecommunications policy and the implementation of projects delivered by the Telecommunications Unit.
  • Establish networks and develop strategies to consult with and build support among key stakeholders for policy objectives, including working across DEDJTR, Victorian and Commonwealth agencies, industry and wider communities.
  • Represent the Department at key forums within DEDJTR, with other departments, and at conferences and meetings.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Proven analytical and conceptual skills, including demonstrated ability to quickly assimilate new concepts and information and deliver positive, innovative solutions to policy and project issues. 
  • Proven record in stakeholder management and ability to gain senior support to effectively address key policy challenges. Ability to covey complex technical information to meet the needs of a targeted audience.
  • Motivated self-starter who has the initiative to pre-empt problems and develop strategies for addressing them as they arise. Can take on leadership responsibilities and works in a collaborative manner within a multidisciplinary team.
